I can’t remember a time in my life that didn’t have some element of theatricality. Growing up, everything felt like an opportunity to create a little world of my own; from choosing the most colorful outfit I could find in the morning, to staging theater shows in my room, to insisting on character face paint before bath time. I like to think Fancy Nancy, one of my favorite childhood characters, would have appreciated my belief that everyday life could always use a little extra pizzazz.

That instinct has stayed with me, even as the way I express it has evolved. I’m still fascinated by the details that give people, places, and experiences their character; the things that make a story feel specific, personal, and alive. It’s what first drew me to theater and storytelling, and what continues to shape the way I approach design today: with curiosity about people, an appreciation for the stories and histories behind them, and a desire to bring those individual pieces together into something others can connect with.
